This 2.5-inch threaded cap is a robust protective accessory designed for standpipe outlets, fire department connections, and fire valves. It utilizes the CSA (Canadian Standards Association) thread, which is the standard used in the province of Ontario and several other regions across Canada, excluding Quebec.
Interprovincial Compliance: The CSA thread (5 threads per inch) is the reference standard for firefighting equipment in Ontario, ensuring full compatibility with local fire department hoses.
Thread Protection: It protects male threads against corrosion, physical impacts, and the accumulation of sediment, ice, or debris that could make a connection impossible during an emergency.
Heavy-Duty Retaining Chain: The integrated chain keeps the cap attached to the valve or Siamese connection, preventing theft, loss, or vandalism.
High-Quality Construction: Built to last, this cap withstands industrial environments and Canadian freeze-thaw cycles.
Diameter: 2.5 inches (65 mm).
Thread Type: CSA (B64).
Thread Standard: 5 threads per inch.
Accessory: Steel chain included.
Typical Jurisdiction: Ontario and other Canadian provinces (excluding Quebec).
The CSA thread has 5 threads per inch, while the QST thread (Quebec) has 7. They are not interchangeable; a CSA cap will not screw onto a Quebec fitting, and vice versa.
Even if the valve is watertight, exposed threads can oxidize or be damaged by impacts. Additionally, caps prevent the intentional insertion of objects into the piping by vandals, which could block water flow during an intervention.
Yes, these caps are generally equipped with an internal gasket to prevent seeping and ensure airtight protection against external elements.
Yes, as long as the hydrant outlet is 2.5 inches and uses the CSA standard.
In Ontario, compliance with CSA standards is strict. A missing or damaged cap during a fire safety inspection can lead to non-compliance. Regularly check that the chain is not broken and that the cap can be unscrewed manually without excessive effort. In the event of a fire, every second counts, and a seized cap or damaged thread is an obstacle that firefighters should not have to manage.
