Semi-automatic self-locking oval carabiner

The Dentec Safety Specialists semi-automatic self-locking oval carabiner is an anchorage connector designed for fall protection. It requires a double action to open and locks automatically on closing, preventing any accidental opening. Its oval steel hook provides a 5/8 in (11 mm) gate opening, especially suited to anchoring self-retracting lifelines. Sold individually.

It complies with the CSA Z259.12-18C and ANSI Z359.12 standards and can withstand a force of 5620 lb (25 kN) without deforming. The rotating locking sleeve withstands a force of 3600 lb. Intended for a single person, its maximum capacity is 420 lb (215 kg).

Advantages of the oval self-locking carabiner

Compact and safe, this oval double-action, auto-locking carabiner ensures a reliable connection in the fall protection chain, especially for connecting self-retracting lifelines.

Features and safety of the carabiner

  • Semi-automatic mechanism: double action to open, automatic locking
  • Oval steel hook
  • 5/8 in (11 mm) gate opening
  • Strength: 5620 lb (25 kN) without deformation
  • Rotating locking sleeve withstanding 3600 lb
  • Maximum worker capacity: 420 lb (215 kg)
  • Compliant with CSA Z259.12-18C and ANSI Z359.12

Job sites and industries where this carabiner is required

  • Anchoring self-retracting lifelines
  • Construction job sites and work at height
  • Sails and halyards, work at height
  • Any fall protection application requiring an oval self-locking connector

Use and connection of the carabiner

The carabiner connects between the fall arrest device (retractable, lanyard) and the anchorage point or harness ring. Its double action and automatic locking prevent involuntary opening under load. Always check that the gate is fully closed and locked before use, and avoid any load on the gate (the carabiner must work along its major axis). As with any fall protection equipment, account for the fall distance and the free clearance below the worker.

Inspection and maintenance of the carabiner

The worker is responsible for a routine inspection before each use: look for any sign of degradation, wear, malfunction or breakage, and check the gate and locking sleeve. This carabiner should also be inspected periodically by a qualified person other than the user. Any equipment subjected to a fall or impact must be removed from service. For cleaning, use mild soap and lukewarm water (37 °C), with no bleach or abrasive or chemical products; air-dry without excessive heat. The gate mechanism is lubricated only with powdered graphite. Sylprotec offers a fall protection equipment inspection service; see the Services tab.
