30 lb Amerex sodium-chloride portable extinguisher, class D, for sodium, potassium and magnesium fires. FM approved, steel cylinder, with wall hook.
No returnable if used. For more information about our return policy, please refer to the Orders and Returns.
The 30 lb Amerex sodium-chloride portable extinguisher is designed for class D fires, namely combustible-metal fires such as sodium, potassium and magnesium. Rugged and FM approved, it is ideal for laboratories, metal plants and workshops handling these materials. It comes with a wall hook.
The extinguishing agent is sodium chloride, pressurized with argon. Data shows that zirconium, uranium, titanium and powdered-aluminum fires can also be controlled and extinguished with this extinguisher. The cylinder is steel with a weather-resistant baked polyester enamel finish. This Amerex extinguisher is easy and safe to use, thanks to illustrated instructions and a wand that helps apply the powder effectively; the agent forms a crust over the flames and smothers them.

This Amerex sodium-chloride extinguisher is designed exclusively for class D fires (combustible metals): sodium, potassium or magnesium fires. The D570 model allows safe use on magnesium-chip fires, spills over 1.13 cm (1/2 in) of sodium or potassium, and even sodium-potassium alloy fires.
Class D only: do not use on class A (wood, paper, fabric), B (flammable liquids), C (electrical) or K (cooking oils and greases) fires.
Intense heat: class D fires release intense heat; do not disturb the fuel until it has cooled.
After the fire: promptly clean any metal parts that contacted the agent, as it can be corrosive.
A class D extinguisher only protects you if it is kept in good condition. Regular maintenance ensures it will work the day you need it.
Monthly visual inspection: check the gauge, pin, seal, applicator wand and that the steel cylinder is free of damage or corrosion.
Annual servicing: have the extinguisher inspected yearly by a certified technician (NFPA 10 / local regulations).
Recharge: any extinguisher that has been used, even partially, must be recharged immediately by a qualified shop.
Hydrostatic test: the cylinder must undergo periodic pressure testing per the standard.
After use: promptly clean any metal parts that came into contact with the agent, as it can be corrosive.
A class D fire is a combustible-metal fire. It fights sodium, potassium and magnesium fires. It requires a specific agent and must never be replaced by an ordinary extinguisher.
The wand (soft-flow applicator) allows a gentle, controlled application of the powder, which forms a crust that smothers the fire, while keeping the operator away from the heat.
Sodium, potassium, magnesium and, per available data, zirconium, uranium, titanium and powdered aluminum. For lithium fires, use the EXD571 model instead.
For complete fire protection, equip each at-risk area with an extinguisher matched to its fire class, mount it correctly and clearly mark it. Sylprotec offers the full range of portable extinguishers, brackets and cabinets to build a coherent setup.
Sylprotec also offers an inspection and maintenance service for portable extinguishers in the greater Montreal area, plus a full range of fire-protection signs to reduce reaction time.
