The 3M Versaflo S-857 assembly provides an inner shroud hood configuration with reusable suspension for painting, cleaning or assembly stations. The sealed seam S-807 uses Zytron 200 fabric and an acetate visor. S-950 suspension and its adjustment accessories are included, distinguishing this assembly from a bag of replacement hoods. A breathing tube and air supply must still be selected to form a complete approved respiratory combination.

Arrange an appropriate air supply and retain the hood heat limitations.

Compatibility, suspension and configurations

The S-857 configuration includes S-807, S-950, S-955, S-954 and S-923. It uses suspension and must not be combined with an adapter and hard hat assembly. Add the approved tube and air supply corresponding to the selected combination. Supported supplied air valve types do not make every air supply interchangeable.

Installation and adjustment

Fit the S-807 to the S-950 according to instructions and position the inner shroud. Prepare adjustment accessories and check visor retention before connecting the approved tube. Perform system checks with the selected air supply before entering the work area. The S-923 visor cover does not remove the need to inspect the visor.

Use limitations

Do not use this system in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen, with unknown contaminant concentrations, or that are immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH). The textile alone provides no filtration against particulates, gases or vapours. NIOSH concerns the complete system in an approved combination. ASTM F1862 fluid resistance does not mean resistance to all chemicals. The S-857 is not intended for high heat, flames or sparks.

Care, storage and replacement

Examine the inner shroud, textile, seams and visor before each wearing. Replace a soiled or damaged hood while cleaning and inspecting reusable elements according to their directions. Check suspension fasteners before fitting a new S-807. Keep replacement hoods clean during storage. S-series hoods contain no natural rubber latex.

How does this assembly differ from the S-807 bag?

The S-857 includes the S-807 hood, S-950 suspension and S-955, S-954 and S-923 accessories. The S-807-5 bag contains only 5 replacement hoods.

Is a hard hat included with the suspension?

No. The supplied support is S-950 suspension. Hard hat mounting is another configuration and must not be added to this one.

Does the hood filter vapours?

No. The S-807 does not filter air. The approved tube and air supply form part of complete respiratory system selection.

Can the suspension be kept when changing the hood?

The S-950 is reusable according to its condition and instructions. Inspect it before fitting a new hood and replace any deteriorated fastener.

Does fluid resistance allow use around sparks?

No. ASTM F1862 resistance concerns fluids. The hood is unsuitable for sparks, flames or high heat.
