The Peakworks DSK-60 davit system is an advanced professional solution for confined space operations that require more than a standard tripod. The davit is a cantilevered arm structure that positions the anchor point in overhang above the access opening, providing a horizontal reach of 28 in and a working height of 84 in. This geometry allows access to offset or obstructed openings that a symmetrically-legged tripod cannot cover. The complete system weighs 89 lb (40.4 kg) and includes the davit arm itself, a Type 3 rescue SRL, and a man/material winch — the three fundamental components of a CSA Z1006-compliant confined space rescue program. Manufacturer specifications: Width 28 in, Height 84 in, Weight 89 lb.
The V845534060 (SRL-73303-60) rescue SRL is a Type 3 device with a 5 mm (3/16 in) galvanized steel cable, 60 ft (18 m) in length, terminated with a snap hook. It provides both instant fall arrest for the worker and assisted recovery via a 4:1 mechanical advantage. The V84537065 (MW-65G) manual winch features a 5 mm galvanized steel cable on a 65 ft (20 m) drum with an integrated swivel hook, enabling controlled lowering and raising of personnel or materials up to 151 kg (310 lb). Both devices operate from the davit anchor points independently and simultaneously.
The davit arm structure is built from high-strength steel, delivering superior mechanical rigidity compared to a standard tripod for overhang access applications. Steel is chosen here for its mechanical properties under high dynamic loading and its ability to maintain arm geometry under load. ⚠ This product is a special order item only — additional lead time required.
The davit's articulated arm positions the anchor point directly over the opening even when the support structure must be placed to the side — for example when access is obstructed by piping, equipment, or a walkway. The 28 in reach is designed for common industrial configurations where a tripod cannot be centered over the opening.
Unlike a deployable-leg tripod, an anchored davit offers greater resistance to horizontal forces, which is advantageous in rescue operations involving pendular movements or asymmetric loads. The 84 in working height provides adequate clearance for workers in heavy equipment.
The davit system requires an appropriate anchor base (floor sleeve or base plate, not included) that must be selected, installed, and validated by a qualified engineer based on floor or support structure characteristics. Before each use, inspect the davit arm (structure, pivot, anchor bolts), the SRL (galvanized cable, snap hook, shock indicator, Type 3 mechanism), and the winch (wire rope, brake, swivel hook). Verify that the reach is correctly positioned over the opening and all fasteners are properly torqued. Both devices must be tested unloaded before any operation. Per CSA Z1006, annual documented inspection by a qualified competent person is mandatory. Special order product — allow for lead time. Final sale, non-returnable.
A tripod is positioned over the opening using three legs deployed on the surrounding floor — it is portable, fast to deploy, and suitable for the vast majority of standard confined spaces. A davit is a cantilevered arm anchored to a fixed base that provides access to offset or side-obstructed openings. The davit offers a horizontal reach (28 in for the DSK-60) that a tripod cannot replicate. The trade-off is greater weight (89 lb), the need for a fixed anchor base, and a design typically suited for recurring access at a fixed site.
No. The anchor base (floor sleeve or base plate) is not included in the DSK-60. It must be selected and installed based on floor or support structure characteristics, and validated by a qualified engineer. Contact Sylprotec for anchor base options compatible with your application.
The DSK-60 is a made-to-order product (not carried in regular inventory). Lead times vary based on component availability at Peakworks. Contact Sylprotec for an accurate lead time estimate before placing your order.
