Dentec lanyard with energy absorber, standard carabiner and rebar hook

The Dentec fall arrest lanyard is a single polyester lanyard equipped with a Shock Pack energy absorber and two different carabiners: a standard carabiner with a ¾ in (19 mm) throat opening and a rebar hook with a large 2-1/4 in (57 mm) opening, handy for anchoring directly onto a rebar or a large-diameter point. With a 1 in (25 mm) width, it can support a worker weighing 100 to 255 lb (45 to 115 kg), including clothing, tools and equipment.

Dentec Safety Specialists product code: 16L111602. This lanyard complies with CSA Z259.11-17 and ANSI Z359.13-13. It is available in a 6-foot version and fitted with certification labels at one end.

The energy absorber is designed to reduce the impact force of a fall below 675 lb (306 kg). During a fall, it deploys over a distance of 48 in (4 ft) to reduce the force experienced by the worker at arrest. Once the absorber has deployed, the lanyard and harness must be replaced: it is the sign that the equipment did its job and protected a life.

The two carabiners (hooks) are made of steel and require a double unlocking action. They meet ANSI Z359.1-2007 and can withstand a force of 3600 lb (16 kN) without deforming. The standard carabiner, closest to the energy absorber, must be connected to the harness dorsal D-ring; the large-opening rebar hook connects to the anchorage point.

Advantages of the Dentec lanyard with rebar hook

Job sites and industries where this lanyard is required

  • Construction and general work at heights
  • Building maintenance and roofing work
  • Scaffolding and framing work
  • Industrial maintenance and building mechanics
  • Installation of structures and equipment at heights

About the anchorage point

The anchorage point should preferably be located above the level of the harness dorsal D-ring and positioned vertically relative to the user. The user must assess the risks of a potential fall: is there enough clear distance free of obstacles below the worker? Are emergency measures in place to recover the worker quickly? Can the anchorage point withstand a force of 5000 lb? For more information, consult the manufacturer's manual.

Safety lanyard inspection

The worker is responsible for performing a routine inspection before each use. The worker must note any sign of degradation, wear, malfunction or breakage, and replace the lanyard at the first sign of failure. This lanyard should also be inspected periodically by a qualified person other than the worker (from every 90 days to yearly depending on the manufacturer and conditions). The recommended lifetime of a lanyard is 5 years. Any equipment that has withstood a fall or an impact must be taken out of service. Sylprotec offers a lanyard and harness inspection service; to learn more, see the Services tab.

Fall arrest lanyard maintenance

For cleaning, use a mild soap and lukewarm water (37 °C). Do not use bleach or abrasive or chemical products. If your lanyard is too dirty or contaminated, it is time to replace it. Air dry, without excessive heat, in a clean environment. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and to any source of contamination.

FAQ about the Dentec energy-absorbing lanyard

What is the Shock Pack energy absorber for?

It deploys during a fall to reduce the arrest force experienced by the worker below 675 lb. Once deployed, the lanyard and harness assembly must be taken out of service.

What is the rebar hook for?

Its large 2-1/4 in opening lets you anchor directly onto a rebar, tube or large-diameter structure without an extra connector. The standard carabiner attaches to the harness dorsal D-ring.

What is the capacity of this lanyard?

It suits a worker with a total weight of 100 to 255 lb (45 to 115 kg), including clothing, tools and equipment.
