The 3M Speedglas 46-0700-51 inner grinding visor gives the G5-01 (RG501) helmet a clear window again for grinding and finishing. Its anti-fog and scratch-resistant coatings limit the condensation and marks that cloud your view between passes. Sold in a bag of 5, it replaces a scratched or cracked visor and leaves spares for the crew. A sharp view of the tool and the workpiece edge makes the job more precise and more comfortable.

With the Speedglas G5-01, you move from welding to grinding without changing equipment: once the welding shield is flipped up, the inner visor is what stays in front of your eyes. The 46-0700-51 is that replacement visor. It carries a dual anti-fog and scratch-resistant treatment, designed for the two common causes of poor visibility during finishing: fog forming inside the helmet and marks left on the surface. When the original visor is scratched, pitted or cracked, replacing it restores a clear view of the grinding wheel, the tool and the edge of the workpiece. It is a part of the helmet itself, separate from the plates that protect the welding filter.
This visor is designed for the G5-01 (RG501) welding helmet, used in general manufacturing, industrial maintenance, metal processing and heavy infrastructure sites. It supports grinding, metal repair and metal processing as well as the welding phases. For the welding optics, the inside covers of G5 auto-darkening filters remain separate parts, chosen according to the filter fitted in the shield.
The G5-01 instructions describe how to replace the inner visor. Place the visor in its frame, engage every retainer, then close the assembly and check that it is properly locked before getting back to work.
Clean the visor gently to preserve its coatings. If an area stays cloudy after cleaning, or if a crack, pit or scratches interfere with your view, fit a new visor. Use the opportunity to check the condition of the frame that holds it.
The visor protects your face during grinding in the complete G5-01 helmet; for welding, lower the shield fitted with its filter. A cracked visor is replaced before any further use.
The Speedglas G5-01 helmet, where it replaces the original clear inner visor.
No. The visor covers the helmet window for grinding, while the 06-0200-21 and 06-0200-40 covers protect the matching G5 filters directly and are ordered separately.
Fog and scratches are two common causes of visual discomfort during finishing. The two coatings help keep your view clear, especially during long grinding sessions.
The bag holds 5 visors, enough for several replacements or to maintain several G5-01 helmets in the shop.
The visor frame, the hinge mechanism and the headgear are worth a look too; these replacement parts appear in the suggestions below.
Behind the G5-01 grinding visor, the welder keeps SecureFit SF202 glasses (YASF202) and a flame-resistant Nomex cap (V308). Split and full-grain leather welding gloves (G602), MAX earplugs (OA1100) for grinding and a flame-resistant FR-Tech shirt (V129) complete the outfit. During grinding, the welding shield may be raised, but the clear grinding visor must remain lowered in front of the face. Check the stability of all equipment worn together.
To maintain the same G5-01 helmet, inspect the outer visor frame (R46-0700-63) and the hinges (R46-0400-56) when replacing the visor. The headgear (R46-0400-51) is replaced separately to maintain the helmet fit. The face seal (R46-0099-28) and the comfort headrest (R46-0400-55) complete the components to examine before returning the helmet to service.
