Tack welding, welding and grinding: the 3M Speedglas G5-01 46-1101-30TW combines a G5TW filter, a clear visor behind the flip-up welding shield and an Adflo respirator. Air distribution adjusts inside the helmet and the blower is carried on the leather belt. Charger, initial consumables and self-adjusting tube complete this heavy-duty configuration.

From tacking to finishing, the equipment should follow the work without requiring removal of the whole headpiece at every transition. The 3M Speedglas G5-01 46-1101-30TW kit brings the heavy-duty helmet, welding filter and Adflo components stated by 3M together in one case. The G5-01 heavy-duty helmet holds the G5TW auto-darkening filter, light shade 2.5 and dark shades 5 and 8 to 13, with 4 sensors, a 2.9 X 4.3 in / 73 X 109 mm view and a clearing time adjustable from 50 to 1300 ms. The welding shield flips up to expose the clear grinding visor. The Adflo turbo comes with its high efficiency filter, prefilter, spark arrestor, lithium-ion battery, charger, a wide leather belt and a self-adjusting tube.
G5-01 TW addresses the pace of a workshop assembling, tacking, welding and then grinding weld beads. The filter's tack-welding mode helps soften light transitions between short arcs, while Natural Colour viewing supports reading the pool and joint. For work behind a clear visor, the wearer lifts the welding shield rather than removing the whole headpiece.
The G5-01 brochure emphasises comfort control: air directed towards the face or visor, distribution between top and sides, and adjustments accessible while wearing the helmet. Headgear positions the assembly to distribute support and maintain comfortable viewing distance. Waist-mounted Adflo provides filtered-air circulation without placing the filtration unit on the head.
For kit 46-1101-30TW explicitly identified in its Canadian brochure, 3M states a runtime of 10 to 12 hours with the heavy-duty lithium-ion battery, a full charge and new filter at sea level. Actual runtime depends on configuration and conditions and must be checked for the intended shift.
3M intends this kit for heavy infrastructure and general manufacturing, for metal repair and processing, welding and grinding. It suits most arc welding processes, with TIG arc detection above 1 A. It is used by structural steel welders, in mining or forestry equipment repair and in shops where welders alternate beads and grinding throughout the shift under particulate respiratory protection.
Do not use the welding helmet where contact with an open flame is possible. The high efficiency filter protects against particles, not against gases or vapours, and the turbo does not supply oxygen. Follow the 3M restrictions regarding oxygen, unknown contaminants and atmospheres immediately dangerous to life or health. The turbo is not intrinsically safe and is unsuitable for explosive atmospheres. 3M excludes laser welding and heavy overhead work exposing the wearer to molten metal.
Set the shade according to the table in the 3M G5TW instructions, applying the most restrictive limitation stated by 3M.

The configuration is NIOSH approved as a complete system, and 3M states a protection factor of 25 for the kit assembled with its approved components. The program must confirm that particulate protection is sufficient, train the welder in assembly, airflow checks and alarm response, then schedule the replacement of prefilters and filters. Spare parts are found among Adflo welding respirators and respirator accessories.
G5-01 platform, G5TW filter, light shade 2.5, dark shades 5 and 8 to 13, 4 sensors, 2.9 X 4.3 in / 73 X 109 mm view, clearing time from 50 to 1300 ms. Belt-mounted turbo, lithium-ion battery, magenta high efficiency filter, not intrinsically safe. Operating temperature from -5 °C to 55 °C; storage from -20 °C to 55 °C. Polyphthalamide (PPA) shell. Packed weight: 14.663 lb / 6.651 kg. Meets ANSI Z87.1-2015 and CSA Z94.3 with its exact filter, NIOSH approved as a system.
Adjust suspension and face seal, then choose air distribution suited to the work. Set G5TW parameters for the process and check the return to light after the arc stops. Adjustable delay can help when the pool remains bright, but shade choice must always follow the filter instructions.
The Adflo instructions distinguish the prefilter, high-efficiency filter and spark arrestor. The prefilter shields the main filter from part of the particulate loading; the spark arrestor must remain correctly fitted. During replacement, keep the seal clean and do not press the filter grille. Low-airflow or low-battery alarms require immediate exit from the contaminated area. The system's high-altitude designation does not override the assembly and filter restrictions in the instructions.
Before each shift, inspect the helmet, visor, tube, belt, turbo and battery, then check the airflow. Change the prefilter and spark arrestor according to their condition, and the high efficiency filter according to the Adflo instructions. Use the turbo between -5 °C and 55 °C and store it between -20 °C and 55 °C. No solvents, immersion or direct spraying on the shell.
The G5-01 helmet with G5TW filter, the Adflo turbo, a high efficiency filter, a prefilter, a spark arrestor, the lithium-ion battery, the charger, a wide leather belt and a self-adjusting tube.
3M lists most arc welding processes, with TIG arc detection above 1 A.
It sets the time taken to return to the light state after the arc stops, from 50 to 1300 ms on the G5TW.
No. The turbo is not intrinsically safe.
3M states 10 to 12 hours for this kit with its heavy-duty battery fully charged, a new filter and use at sea level. Filter condition, configuration and environment affect this duration. Check charge and airflow beforehand and leave the area immediately if an alarm activates.
When organizing the tasks around this helmet, protect the eyes during tasks away from the welding arc with eyewear (YAZ200); protect the hands while handling cool parts with gloves (GS13GDSTL); keep hearing protection available near the workstation with earplugs (OA101); mark access routes around the work area with marking (ECT3RE9); mark access routes around the work area with marking (EPTBA).
