The choice of respiratory protection equipment will however depend on a number of elements such as the type of contaminant, its concentration, under which state of matter it is found and in which working environment? These information are particularly important if one must work in an industrial setting where there are increased fatal risks, in an environment deprived in oxygen or in an environment presenting a significant risk of explosion. It may be difficult to get all the answers in particular when it comes to minor structural maintenance work such as carpentry, painting, or when using common chemicals.

To make an informed choice as for respirators, one must absolutely know under which state of matter the contaminant is found and in which concentration. Is it more of a dust or fumes?

Disposable Masks
Sylprotec offers a wide range of disposable respirators for respiratory protection. Several models are available on the market and to choose right one must identify the type of contaminants in the work environment as well as the type of environment. Indeed, not all respirators will protect one from, for example, organic vapours. It is also not recommended to use a disposable respirator in an oxygen deprived environment or one displaying less than 19% oxygen.
Of course, it is important to know how to fit your respirator. We offer a fit test service because an adjusted mask means a protection form up to 10 times a permitted exposure limit set by the CNESST or any other government regulation applicable. Exposure limits are specific to each contaminant and must not exceed the limits beyond which workers could die.
Designations N, R or P are assigned according to the degree of resistance to oily particles:
- N for not resistant to oil particles
- R for resistant oily particles, a shift of 8 hours
- P permissible to oil, unaffected by oily particles for their entire service life
Hereon, numbers such as 95 or 100 represent the respirator’s performance in percentage against a 0.3 micron particle. Let’s take a N95 disposable respirator for example: it is not resistant to oily particles and capture 95% of the particles in the air which pass through the filter.
Some models have exhalation valves or simply are of different shapes. Exhalation valves improve the wearing of respirators with safety eyewear because it avoids the fogging of glasses. Those which may feature folded borders such as the R9211 model are convenient since they fit in the pocket between uses.

North Respirators and Cartridges
Sylprotec offers a good selection of North respirators and their components. North respirators are valued for their flexibility and reliability. North respirators allow several configurations of cartridges or filters. We currently offer the most popular filter elements, however, according to the shifting demand, changes will ensue. 3M Powerflow Face-Mounted Powered Air Purifying Respirator
3M Powerflow respirators have been design for asbestos abatement. They are ideal for work in moderate or high risk of contamination, that is, amounts of asbestos that exceed 1 cubic foot.
Motorized respirators make breathing easier compared to regular respirators. The worker has no extra effort to make to breathe. The filters are specially designed for asbestos abatement.
On top of being HEPA P100, these filters are equipped with a cap that seals the filter after use so to prevent the spread of asbestos fibers outside the filter. Our main products are:

Allegro low pressure Air-Supplied Respirators
This type of respiratory protection is recommended for work that will release solid and liquid particles into the air or work in environments where you find contaminants and/or biological particles in the air. Low-pressure air supply systems are required when workers are in the presence of a contaminant that cannot be filtered by cartridges or filters. Low pressure pumps are designed to transfer respirable air from an uncontaminated area to a worker who requires supplied air respirators. The term frequently used in the field of respiratory protection is SAR for “Supplied Air Respirator.”

These kits offer a NIOSH-approved protection factor of 1000 when you fully use all components designated by the manufacturer Allegro. You must check the level of respiratory risk associated with its use. The manufacturer has designed its products for environments with contaminant concentrations that do not exceed the limit that results in the immediate death of the worker. This must be taken into account if the pump stops working. In addition, be sure to choose the location of your air source wisely because the pumps are designed to transfer breathing air from an uncontaminated area to a worker. Equipment in this category is not recommended for sandblasting. Do not use these respiratory protection systems in areas where there is a risk of oxygen deficiency.

In our choice of products we have selected three types of facial parts, the half-mask respirators, the full face or the hood. As for the choice of the hood, it is necessary if your workers are not finely shaved or beard or mustache. To ensure the required airflow, three models of pumps are available. The equipment included in this category operates at low pressure, from 1 to 45 psi. The final choice of the pump depends on the choice of the facial part and the number of workers. To help you, the manufacturer Allegro Industries has created sets that take into account the limits of the pumps.

TR-300 Versaflo Head-Mounted Powered Air Purifying Respirator
3M Versaflo TR-300 for respiratory protection equipment are of a new generation powered air purifying respirators. This type of equipment offers a perfect balance between comfort and protection. Indeed, a Versaflo TR-300 provides a great mobility to the workers, adjust to most face shapes and may be adapted to different work environments.
First, Versaflo’s TR-300 unit blows filtered air into the facepiece without the worker having to make any effort to breath. Depending on the facepiece chosen, this type of equipment may offer a protection from 25 times to a 1000 times the permissible exposure limit set by the CNESST or any other government regulation applicable.
Many facepiece are available thus, the configuration of your equipment will depend on the environment in which you work whether it be in an industrial environment where hard hats are required or in a pharmaceutical or medical environment which for example may require a chemical spill protection.
3M indeed offers a wide selection of hard hats facepiece which all belong to the H-series. If needed, 3M also offers S-series head covers and hoods; some disposable and some with a reusable suspension.
Of course, many accessories are available which makes of the Versaflo TR-300 a versatile, ergonomic and light equipment compared to others. Among others are available a prefilter (RVTR3600) and a spark arrestor (RVTR362) which both extend the HEPA (RVTR3715N5) filter’s service life.

TR-600 Versaflo Head-Mounted Powered Air Purifying Respirator
3M TR-600 Versaflo for respiratory protection equipment are of a new generation powered air purifying respirators. This type of equipment offers a perfect balance between comfort and protection. The specificity of 3M TR-600 is that one can now install a combined cartridge to be protected from organic vapours (RVTR6510N), acid gases (RVTR6320N) and a myriad of other chemicals that might be a hazard to your health and safety.
