At a hot workstation connected to breathing air, comfort depends on air temperature as well as its distribution inside the helmet. The 3M Speedglas G5-01 46-5702-00 heavy-duty welding helmet is fed with breathable compressed air through a belt-worn V-100 Vortex cooling valve. The kit includes the G5-01 helmet, the V-100 valve, the V-199 adapter, the V-112 comfort pad, the TR-326 belt, the SG-30W breathing tube and a G5 storage bag. The valve lets the welder adjust the temperature of the air entering the helmet, welcome in a hot shop or an enclosed area. The welding filter, breathable air supply and supply hose are not included and must be selected according to the approved configuration.
At a hot workstation with a suitable breathing-air network, this G5-01 version gives the welder local thermal adjustment. The V-100 Vortex valve adjusts air sent towards the helmet, and G5-01 ducts then allow distribution around the face and head to be adjusted. These controls serve separate needs: supply-air temperature and the direction of circulation within the headpiece.
The wearer retains the G5-01 layout for heavy-duty work. The welding shield flips up in front of the clear visor for preparation or grinding without removing the whole helmet. Belt mounting places the valve away from the head, while the breathing tube connects the supply to the headpiece.
This solution requires preparation of the supplied-air workstation. It does not draw workshop air through an Adflo filter. Supply-air quality, the authorised air hose and operating conditions must be established for the complete system.
3M intends this configuration for heavy infrastructure and general manufacturing, for welding, grinding, metal processing and repair. It suits shipyards and structural shops that already have a breathable air network, welders working for long periods inside a tank or a box section once access conditions are established, and stations where a belt-worn turbo would be less practical than a supply hose.
Use the welding helmet only between -5 and +55 °C. Do not use it where contact with an open flame is possible. The V-100 valve does not produce air: it must be connected to a breathable air supply and a supply hose approved for the configuration. Follow the 3M restrictions regarding oxygen, unknown contaminants and atmospheres immediately dangerous to life or health. Without an installed welding filter, the helmet is not ready for welding. 3M also excludes laser welding and heavy overhead work exposing the wearer to molten metal.

Sold separately: welding filter, breathable air supply and air supply hose.
A supplied air system fits into the respiratory protection program only with a breathable air supply of controlled quality and with the component combination approved by 3M. Among 3M welding respirators, this configuration differs from Adflo turbos because it does not filter ambient air. Plan training in connection and pre-use checks, along with the respirator accessories needed for the air network.
G5-01 platform, model 46-5702-00, polyphthalamide (PPA) shell, black colour, grinding visor. V-100 valve, V-199 adapter, V-112 pad, TR-326 belt, SG-30W tube. Packed weight: 9.798 lb / 4.444 kg. Assembled with an approved filter, the configuration meets ANSI Z87.1-2015 and CSA Z94.3 and carries a NIOSH approval; the helmet without a filter is not ready for welding.
Before connection, check the authorised combination of valve, supply hose, couplings and headpiece. Position the belt to support the valve without pulling on the breathing tube when turning the head. Route the hoses to allow the required movement while avoiding heat, sharp edges and crushing.
After fitting the helmet and face seal, set temperature with the V-100 and distribution with G5-01 controls. Check operation according to the supplied-air system instructions. Install the approved welding filter before arc exposure; the grinding visor does not replace it. Also inspect the visor and shield retainers after tasks involving heavy spatter.
Before each use, inspect the helmet, V-100 valve, SG-30W tube and belt, then check the connection to the air supply according to the 3M instructions. Replace a cracked part, a punctured tube or a damaged fitting. Do not clean the shell with solvents, immerse it or spray liquid on it. Store the kit in its G5 bag, with the tube not kinked, away from heat and spatter.
No. The V-100 valve, TR-326 belt and SG-30W tube are included, but the breathable air supply and supply hose are ordered separately.
No. The G5-01 helmet is supplied without a welding filter; install an approved filter with its plates before welding.
It is a cooling valve: it adjusts the temperature of the air entering the helmet.
Yes. This G5-01 configuration has a grinding visor, and 3M recommends it for grinding, welding and metal repair.
No. The V-100 adjusts supplied-air temperature; G5-01 controls adjust its distribution towards the face, visor and head. Comfort also depends on headpiece adjustment and compliance with the supplied-air system conditions.
For a shipyard welder working inside compartments with this supplied air helmet, plan clear anti-fog SecureFit glasses (YASF201) and TenActiv Pro gloves (GSTXFNVB) with impact protection for handling stiffeners. A neckband earmuff (OPH6B) requires a fit and interference check with the helmet before combined use, while a pennant warning line (EFLAC) and a yellow and black extensible barrier (EPT195) flag the path of the air hose.
The G5-01 auto-darkening filter (R46-0000-30i) fits this helmet, and the G5-01 face seal membrane (R46-0099-28) is replaced when worn. The protective sleeve (RSG15) covers the SG-30W tube against spatter. For helmet parts, keep the G5 sweatband (R46-0200-54) in a bag of 3, the G5-01 hinge mechanism (R46-0400-56) and the outer visor frame (R46-0700-63).
