On a part built through successive tacks, visual comfort depends on both the view and filter behaviour between short arcs. The 3M Speedglas G5-03 Pro 10-0100-30TW welding helmet replaces the former 9100 assemblies discontinued by 3M and arrives ready to weld with the G5TW auto-darkening filter. The filter has a light-state shade of 2.5, then switches in 0.1 ms at 23 °C to the selected dark shade: 5 or from 8 to 13. Its 4 sensors, 5-level sensitivity and 2.9 X 4.3 in / 73 X 109 mm view are complemented by side windows on the helmet. The tack mode helps during repeated tacks and the grinding mode lets the welder dress a weld without changing equipment. Natural colour technology gives a truer view of colours.
A tacked assembly requires quick recovery of visual marks, torch movement and repeated short arcs. G5TW is designed for this sequence: its tack-welding mode aims to reduce eye fatigue from repeated light changes, while Natural Colour helps reveal the pool and preparation edges. The light state supports workpiece observation between sequences.
G5-03 Pro adds ergonomic headgear and side windows. Suitable positioning keeps the viewing area aligned with the eyes without searching for the joint through unnecessary head movements. Side windows supplement this view to help the wearer notice activity near the assembly table.
The platform's TW filter includes the TAP function presented by 3M for switching between designated modes by tapping the helmet side. It assists transitions between welding and grinding without removing the equipment. Checking the active mode remains essential before the arc. This is an optical version; workstation respiratory filtration must be addressed separately.
3M intends this helmet for most MMA, MIG/MAG and TIG welding processes, cutting and grinding. It suits fabrication welders who alternate tacks and beads, maintenance shops that switch between welding and grinder finishing, and crews renewing a fleet of 9100 helmets discontinued by 3M with a current platform.
Use the assembled G5-03 Pro system only between -5 and +55 °C.
3M excludes laser welding, contact with an open flame and heavy overhead welding that exposes the wearer to molten metal. This helmet is not respiratory protection; the work light and respiratory protection are not included.
Set the shade according to the table in the 3M G5TW instructions, applying the most restrictive limitation stated by 3M.

Adjust the headgear so the helmet stays stable when tilting, then choose the dark shade and one of the 5 sensitivity levels according to the instructions. Activate tack mode for successive tacks and grinding mode for grinder work. Before each session, check that the 4 sensors are clear and that the filter switches from shade 2.5 to the selected shade.
G5-03 Pro platform, G5TW 46-0000-30TW filter, light shade 2.5, dark shades 5 and 8 to 13, darkening time of 0.1 ms at 23 °C, 4 sensors, 5-level sensitivity, 2.9 X 4.3 in / 73 X 109 mm view, natural colour, tack and TAP technologies, 3 V CR2450 lithium battery. Polyphthalamide (PPA) shell, black colour, side windows, G5 model suspension. Weight listed for this product: 0.328 lb / 0.149 kg. Assembled with its filter, the G5-03 Pro meets ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2020 and CSA Z94.3-2020.
Set shade, sensitivity and the return-to-light delay for the process, then try tack-welding mode on the intended operation. The aim is comfortable observation of short cycles with the filter correctly positioned and sensors clear. Tack mode does not replace selection of a shade appropriate to the work.
Configure TAP according to the filter instructions before using it for transitions. Check grinding indication and the return to welding rather than assuming a tap has been registered. Keep plates clean and replace scratched or spatter-covered ones. An optional task light can supplement workpiece lighting without changing filter protection or making this helmet suitable for an atmosphere requiring a respirator.
Before each use, check that the helmet is complete, undamaged and correctly assembled, and repair defective parts before welding. Do not immerse the helmet in water or spray liquid directly on it. Replace the CR2450 battery when the filter no longer responds correctly, and change the protection plates as soon as they are scratched or pitted by spatter.
Yes. The helmet comes with the G5TW 46-0000-30TW filter, headgear and front panel.
Yes. 3M lists the 10-0100-30TW as the replacement for its discontinued 9100 assemblies with filter.
The G5TW switches from the light state to the dark state in 0.1 ms at 23 °C.
Yes. The G5TW filter has a grinding mode and a tack welding mode.
No. Tack-welding mode acts on light transitions between short arcs. TAP is a control for switching between the filter's designated modes. Both are configured according to the instructions, and the wearer must always verify the working mode before welding or grinding.
To equip the work area for this configuration, protect the eyes during tasks away from the welding arc with eyewear (YA11515); protect the hands while handling cool parts with gloves (GS21TXUGFN); keep hearing protection available near the workstation with dispenser (OA101D); select respiratory protection according to the task assessment with respirator (R9210); mark access routes around the work area with marking (ECT3YE7).
If the shell is damaged, the G5-03 Pro shell (R10-0300-52), sold without headgear or filter, lets you refit the G5TW and headgear of this helmet. G5TW protection plates are ordered by their exact 3M model. To compare model 10-0100-30TW with distinct configurations, also review variant (RG5-03-E09-0100), solution (RG5-03E), model (R45-009935), helmet (R45-0099-33), assembly (R10-0100-30VC). Compare their contents with model 10-0100-30TW; the parts are not presumed interchangeable.
